Digital Common Lectionary
A lectionary provides a series of readings to help people engage a range of scripture.
The Digital Common Lectionary (DCL) offers readings for each Sunday of the year on a four-year cycle, beginning on the first Sunday in Advent. Each year the DCL focuses on a Gospel, explores readings from our Wisdom Literature, follows a Metanarrative pathway, and offers a monthly social media calendar. The DCL reminds us to keep connected with our global community and invites preachers to sync their sermons with discussions happening across public and social forums.
The DCL is an Australian lectionary connecting us to Australian dates and events - keep in mind your communities' own social calendars and substitute these days accordingly.
Liturgical Colours
The DCL follows the liturgical colours of the Methodist tradition, however, please adapt to best serve your communities.
The Gospel Readings
Across the four-year cycle the DCL spends a year exploring one Gospel. Year A follows The Gospel of Matthew and includes a series of secondary readings for each Sunday.
Wisdom Literature
Across the four-year cycle the DCL spends a year exploring one of the Wisdom books of the Bible. Year A follows the Book of Job.
Metanarrative Pathway
Across the four-year cycle the DCL spends a year following one story arc of scripture. Year A sees us journeying through a Creation story; The tower of Babel; Sodom & Gomorrah; Isaac & Rebekah; Jacob; Deborah; Samson & Delilah; Samuel; David; Micah; Jesus' birth, life, death and resurrection; stories through The Book of Acts; Galatians; Ephesians and finishing in the Book of Revelation.
Social Media Calendar
Of course, there are a large number of dates and events that take place across our communities. If you believe there are dates/events that are specific to your context, please feel free to addition them to your own calendar.
Our beta-test of 2022-2023 ran perfectly, so please enjoy Year A of the very first Digital Common Lectionary.
